New Feature: Block Window is Now Live on Erathos App

We are excited to announce the new feature implemented on the Erathos platform, the Block Window. It was developed to address some pain points brought up by users, with the primary goal of enabling users to manually and independently define the ideal routine for their runs on the Erathos platform.

What is the Block Window used for?

When accessing the new feature, a calendar showing the days of the week (Sunday to Saturday) is provided, allowing you to block potential runs and protect databases during critical times. You have the flexibility to select a start and end time for this lock-out for every day of the week, ensuring that jobs do not run during the defined window.

This feature includes the ability to just block new runs from starting, and also includes options to cancel any jobs that would actually be running, as well as locking manual runs during the defined period.

When to use the Block Window

Some common scenarios where the Block Window solves a real-world problem:

Source database maintenance windows. If the database feeding one of your connectors has scheduled maintenance, a nightly backup, or reindexing at a certain time, a sync competing for resources during that same period can cause slowness or even maintenance failure. Blocking the sync during this window avoids the conflict.

Peak business hours. Sources that experience high load during business hours, such as a transactional database serving the company's main application, can benefit from syncs scheduled outside peak hours, reducing the impact on performance perceived by end users.

APIs with sensitive rate limits. Some SaaS sources apply stricter rate limits at certain times, or the team itself may prefer to concentrate API quota usage within specific windows so as not to compete with other integrations that consume the same API.

Frequently Asked Questions about Block Window

Does the Block Window cancel runs that are already in progress? You can choose. The feature allows you to either just block new runs from starting or cancel jobs that are already running at the moment the block window begins.

Can I configure different times for each day of the week? Yes. The calendar covers Sunday to Saturday, and you can define the start and end of the lock-out for each day independently.

Does the Block Window also block manual runs? Yes, you can lock manual runs within the defined period, in addition to automatically scheduled runs.

Does the Block Window affect pipeline observability? No. Blocked syncs remain visible in the run history, with their status reflecting that they were paused by the rule, maintaining complete traceability.
